Rumpets Recipe
What you need:
2 cups plain flour
1 cup salt
1 cup lukewarm water
1 handful of birdseed (optional)
1 very happy heart
food coloring
large mixing bowl
wooden spoon
lots of smiles
What you do:
1) First, make very sure you're having fun. Reindeer can definitely
taste the difference between happy Rumpets and cranky Rumpets!
2) Mix the flour, salt and half of the water in the bowl.
3) Gradually add more water until it's workable as dough. (If you
add too much water the dough will become sticky and hard to work with.)
4) Knead the dough with your hands for ten minutes.
5) If you'd like to make different colored Rumpets, separate the dough
into piles and add food coloring as you wish.
6) Once you have kneaded the food coloring into the dough, and made
the dough the color you want, then use your hands to roll the dough
into 1/4" inch thick rolls, 3 - 6 inches long. In other words, make
the dough look like little snakes! Or really skinny cheese sticks.
Or worms. Or string. Or..well..you get the idea, right?
7) Wind the snakes into coils. In other words, twirl the dough rolls
so each one looks like soft ice cream without a cone!
8) Sprinkle or roll your Rumpet in birdseed. (Reindeer love birdseed!
If you don't have any, that's ok, you can skip this step.)
9) You can air dry your Rumpets. Or, for a puffier look, bake them.
Place Rumpets on a foil covered baking sheet and bake them in the
oven at 325-350 degrees for 30 minutes.
10) Let cool.
