Whatever you"d like
You can decorate your magical box with materials you have at home
or purchase some of the craft materials suggested in the "you can
use" list. The most important thing is to use your imagination and
have fun! Simple or fancy, Santa knows every box is special because
they are all made differently by special girls and boys.
When you are finished making your box, be sure to blow some Christmas
kisses in before you add your Rumpets!
Each year your magical box will be ready for a fresh batch of Rumpets
and some new Christmas magic.
Ideas for decorating your box:
Cut or rip up Christmas wrapping paper and use decoupage
paste to apply the paper to the box. Decoupage paste should be painted
onto the back of the wrapping paper and then painted onto the front
of the paper after you place it in your desired location on the
box.
Create an interesting texture to paint over using one of
the suggested methods, or your imagination.
----- Rip up newspaper into small strips that can be glued
onto your box. Brush watered down glue onto both sides of newspaper
strips. Stick strips onto your box. Allow to dry and apply a second
layer. When the second layer is dried you can paint your box. A
solid metallic paint will best show-off the interesting texture
you have created.
----- Glue dried beans, seeds and or pasta to the box. A
hot glue gun may work best for some larger pieces. When everything
is dry, apply a solid metallic paint to the box to best show-off
the interesting texture you have created.
----- Clean and dry discarded eggshells. Place the shells
between two pieces of wax paper and use a rolling pin or wooden
spoon to crush them. Paint glue onto the box or just the box top
and sprinkle the crushed shells over the glue. Allow to dry and
paint.
Paint your box with a variety of colors. When the paint is
dry apply a gloss varnish to seal the paint and create a polished
finish. Be sure to use paint that will not run when the varnish
is applied.
Use hot glue to line the inside of the box with red or green
velvet fabric. Seams can be hidden by applying gold relief paint
or glitter over them.
Finishing your magical box:
Create small Christmas designs or cutouts with polymer clay.
Bake the clay and glue these objects onto your box with hot glue.
Use glitter, buttons, Christmas ribbons or any of the other
items mentioned above to finish decorating your box.
